Job Postings and Funding Opportunities
Lately, I am hearing colleagues voicing the same things I am feeling. The words, tired, exhausted, burnout, unbalanced, overloaded, etc., keep coming up in casual and professional conversations. I believe that when someone is brave enough to say it outload, we all need to listen.
MAC has offered many trainings and even series of trainings on the topic of Occupational Identity and burnout, especially in mission driven and victim centered work. We are proud to say that Dr. Johnanna Ganz, the leading expertise in this area, is a friend of MAC’s and has been influential in helping us work to create a healthy, supportive, and respectful work environment. I highly recommend watching one of their archived trainings on MAC’s member page.
Here’s the thing, even with all of the work MAC staff and board has done to create great work environment, unless as individuals we are utilizing the tools, policies, and autonomy that’s been implemented and afforded to us, we are just as susceptible to developing an out of balance occupational identity that leads to burnout, as anyone else.
I try to say this to others and myself when I sense they or I am teetering on the edge of being overwhelmed in our work;
1)Your/my mental and physical health is more important to the organization than any one thing that is on your to-do list. 2)That one thing on your list that you are absolutely sure with fall apart, fail, or lead to catastrophe if you don’t finish it today or tomorrow, will survive if you step away for a day or even a week. 3)PTO belongs to you/me, not the organization. You/I should not need to get permission to use PTO on days when we need to, and, we should be planning to take at least a full week off twice a year, or more, depending on our PTO accrual.
We all need to believe our work matters or we shouldn’t continue to invest in it. We all need to believe our personal well-being matters more, or we won’t be able to continue to do the work. We can’t not support others who need us, if we aren’t supporting ourselves, first.
I love having this conversation with other organizational leaders and staff and am happy to share what I/MAC has learned and continues to learn on our journey to be person centered organization.
In peace,
Bobbi

Extreme Risk Protection Orders
Free Webinar
March 6th, 2024
12pm-1:30pm CT
Effective January 1, 2024, Minnesota law allows certain people to request an order from the court to prohibit someone from purchasing or possessing a firearm. This type of order is called an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO). Although the term is not used in the Minnesota law, laws that authorize these types of orders are often called “red flag” laws. An ERPO may be issued if a person poses a significant danger of bodily harm to others and/or is at significant risk of suicide if they possess a firearm.
Presenter Rana Alexander, Esq. of Standpoint will explain the new law as well as how it will be handled by the courts and law enforcement. This session will help you to better explain this new protection order to victims and help them through the process of filing for and enforcing it.
This webinar is free for all to attend. The webinar will be recorded and the recording will be made available exclusively for MAC members.

Exploring the Intersections Between Substance Use, Domestic Violence, & Other Crimes
Free Webinar
April 11th, 2024
12pm-1:30pm CT
Substance use coercion and problematic substance use are common challenges faced by victims of domestic violence. Victims may also be involved in other crimes as a result of substance use coercion and/or domestic violence. But crime victim service providers are often not equipped to address substance use and vice versa. As an organization with both domestic violence and substance use disorder programs, Missions Inc. Programs is in a unique position to address the intersection of these issues for the people we serve. During this presentation, staff working in both areas will share data and anecdotal experience to illustrate how providers across fields can better address these intertwined issues for clients.
Presenters: Veronica Hardaway, Missions Inc.’s Hart House Program Manager; Elsa Swenson, Missions Inc.’s Home Free Community Program Manager; Sarah Busch, Community Engagement & Outreach Manager at Missions Inc. Programs
